Wearing Hats

Wearing Hats

Wearing hats is in my view, an undervalued preoccupation! What better way to step out in the world creatively and in your own fashionable style? Not to mention the added benefit of protecting your skin from sun damage!

Wearing hats is a fun way to enhance your attire.  Lately I have been amused by mixing patterns so that my hat pops.  This is how you do it… you choose a color from your main wardrobe item and pair a hat that has that color prominently in it!  As you see from the photo above, I have successfully managed to achieve a colorfully appealing outfit.  I have chosen to limit accessories to more classic jewelry to highlight the bright choices I made with my hat and dress.  However, if you can carry it off, you could add a bright, junky necklace and bracelets or earrings too to give the look extra impact.  My friend Elaine has chosen a more conservative approach to her hat selection that I feel is perfectly elegant and appropriate for her classic black dress and pearls.  There is something so finished about Elaine’s style and I love the giant hoop earrings that balance
her choices.

Wearing hats is a great way to express your passions.  Often people are spotted wearing their favorite team’s baseball cap, or a baseball cap with their favorite designer embroidered prominently.  One of my favorite baseball caps is one I bought in Palm Springs, California featuring the artwork of Jean- Michel Basquiat.
I am lately loving bucket style hats because there are so many whimsical patterns available. I am excited to wear my new bucket hats this Fall.  Unlike in days gone by, I feel that hats can and should be enjoyed in all seasons.

Since we literally all “wear many hats” in our daily lives, wouldn’t it be entertaining to wear a different hat for each activity.  For instance, when gardening you could wear a wide-brimmed straw hat and when cooking you could wear a chef’s hat and when shopping you could wear a beret. Oh, the possibilities are endless. I encourage you to try wearing a hat, even if the idea seems uncomfortable at first, because I am confident it will bring out your innate creativity and more so make you happy!
