Using Every Day Items to Enhance Creativity

Using Every Day Items to Enhance Creativity

Your garden, garbage and garage are great sources for creative projects. Whether you use a familiar object in an unfamiliar way or you design your personalized version of a well-worn idea, your everyday life is filled with opportunities to create.

The first step in flexing your creative muscles is to open up to the possibilities. This will require stepping away from your daily routines for a while. Think of it as taking a deep yoga breath away from work and chores. Indeed, taking several deep breaths is a great way to shift gears in thought and motion. Next, look around you to see where your free mind gravitates. Perhaps the bounty of tomatoes and herbs in your garden will inspire you to make a proprietary marinara sauce. Maybe the empty egg carton can become a jewelry box for earrings. How about using golf balls to anchor a flower arrangement. What about creating a putting green in your backyard using empty cans of soup you can putt into? There are amazing possibilities everywhere.

Using everyday items artists create sculptures, collages and crafts so why can’t you? Many people find the pursuit of creative projects to be a therapeutic way to relieve tension, stress and emotional turmoil. Scrapbooking using household items and photographs is a wonderful way to creatively catalog lifetime memories in a personalized way. However you use everyday items in new ways is a creative reinvention all your own.

Expanding your creativity is vital to an active mind as you age. Remember the journey into creativity does not require traveling beyond your own front door. Exploring personal creativity begins right where you are, seeing the every day as elevated and enlivening!
