Get to Know Your Super-Power
The Power of Creativity
Did you know you have a super-power? We all do! Like eyes and ears that process your everyday experiences or lungs that facilitate your breath, your brain and soul merge within you giving birth to your creativity. Actually you use your creativity every day. When you rise from your bed to start your day you “creatively” devise a plan of action. Even if you just flow through the day, the way you do so is your own creation. At work, at home, at school and in all of your relationships you use your super-power of creativity to problem-solve. For instance, in your work, whether you are a lawyer researching and assembling a legal brief or you are an assembly-line worker at the Ford Motor Company you use your skills of creative thinking collaboratively or individually to create product.
More traditional thoughts often come to mind when we think about creativity and these usually involve pursuits either as hobbies or professions involving the arts. Perhaps you played the piano as a child, or you enjoyed crafting projects creating jewelry or you excelled at building model airplanes, why not revisit those “creative” endeavors that brought you joy as a child? If you work in a field known for creativity, like graphic design for instance, why not explore new avenues of creativity in your free-time?
Exploring new ways to express personal creativity builds resiliency because this super-power helps you to focus on emotions other than troubling ones. If you are grieving, writing a journal of memories about your love-one or putting together a scrapbook of photos and collectibles is a wonderful creative outlet that will produce a product you can save and cherish for years to come. Your creative super-power thrives when exploring new ideas, figuring out how to do new things, and even meeting new people. A great way to expand your creative super-power is to join a club or religious-affiliated group where you will enjoy enriching experiences and share ideas. Travel is yet another exciting way to expand your super-power of creativity as you learn about different cultures and their creative ways of living. Volunteering can also provide creative expansion, for instance joining a homebuilding team with Habitat for Humanity or planning and preparing meals at a homeless shelter.
Your super-power of creativity is a vital force in strengthening your resiliency, and by recognizing how often you use yours everyday and expanding the ways you can help it grow, I guarantee your life will be positively enhanced.
