Seeing Creatively

Our natural world presents us, at every moment, a chance to see creatively. The problem is that we are often hurrying through our days, racing from meeting, to activity, to phone call, to texting or watching our screens, that we miss the vibrant manifestations of creativity existing in our natural world. The inspiration of animals partaking of their natural habitats is filled with creative wisdom we should value.

This morning, for instance, I noticed a tiny squirrel hanging tenuously from a fragile tree branch as it munched on newly birthed berries hanging from the limb. My first thought was how miraculous it was that the squirrel with its weight did not fall from the fledgling branch. My second thought was how brave the squirrel was to take a chance, be determined, and go after the nourishment it wanted. My third thought was how the squirrel’s innate creativity helped it to navigate around the tree, eating to its heart’s content, then descending to safety with a full belly and a completed mission.

Seeing the squirrel and its creative mission, reminded me of the bunnies I see dashing through the desert terrain when I visit Palm Desert, California. Bunny cottontails dashing in the breeze remind me of cotton candy if it could dance. I intentionally express it this way to illustrate how when we see creatively it allows us to express our own creativity. For me, it is through writing, for another it will be painting, composing a song, infusing wisdom into their tennis serve or solving a business dilemma, for instances. There are endless possibilities to enhance our daily experiences when we see creatively and notice creativity all around us.

Tomorrow, instead of just standing in the grass, step back and take a look at the blades. Notice how they coexist and possess individuality. See how they thrive or are diminishing. When we see creatively we spark the superpower of creativity living within us.
