I came to the beach today
strong and clear
on this December day
that brought me here
inviting me to recall
the struggles of my fall
and how with courage I stood
on steady feet not knowing if I could
until I heard the seagull’s raucous cry
like a bugle sounding pain’s release
then took a breath of air and let my soul fly
while shadow’s portrait stayed in peace
