Creative Leadership
CEO standing also for Creative Executive Official
At least once in your lifetime (but most likely more than once), you will be called upon to play a leadership role. The opportunity may come in your recreational life when you are voted captain of a team, or you lead a group of travelers on an expedition, or you head up a mission-driven endeavor; in these and other circumstances others will rely upon your organizational skills and knowledge to guide them. In your business life you may be asked to lead a project or supervise others, or maybe come up with a strategic plan that will change and direct your company. At home, as a spouse, parent or every-day managing your home and affairs for yourself, you make countless decisions that require personal accountability and leadership. In all of these endeavors, and many more not mentioned, your actions will be guided by your leadership skills.
You may wonder, what is creative leadership? According to Madeleine Goldfarb, one of the most creative leaders I know, “A key part of creative leadership is to allow each person to express their creativity.” A leader who fosters a safe environment for others to express their ideas will ignite the passion and drive of others to achieve goals. From my own experience, excitement about innovating change or disruption of tired scenarios is contagious, and it starts with the leader. When leadership is open to collaboration then creativity thrives.
Creative leadership requires an openness by the leader to entertain new ideas and perspectives. The excitement generated by a participatory focus leads to successful accomplishments and personal fulfillment for all.
